Planteray Rum

Since 1999, Planteray’s Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel has travelled throughout the Caribbean, where rum was first made in Barbados, and across the Pacific and Indian Oceans. In each terroir he works hand-in-hand with local rum distillers to revive forgotten techniques and experiment with unique flavour profiles. Once these tropical treasures have aged in the local climate, they travel to southwest France to undergo the centuries-old tradition of double ageing in ex-Ferrand barrels — a historic technique that has become a signature of Planteray rums.

Barbados rum distilled at Stade’s Rum Distillery features proudly in many Planteray expressions, in 100% Barbadian specialties like our award-winning XO 20th Anniversary, or blended with rums from other iconic terroirs like Jamaica and Fiji. Stade’s Rum Distillery’s long heritage and rich rum-making savoir-faire – not to mention our collection of legendary stills – make us the perfect home for Planteray’s perpetual experiments with fermentation, distillation, ageing and blending techniques.

Planteray rums’ signature double-ageing technique revives centuries of rum-making tradition. Double ageing, first in tropical climates and then in the continental climate of southwest France, adds structure and finesse to enhance each rum’s distinctive character. The Distiller’s Vault at Stade’s Rum Distillery houses dozens of century-old documents that tell of this ancestral practice.

Planteray shares their passion for rum-making with other partner distillers in Jamaica, Fiji, Australia, Peru, Guyana, St. Lucia, Belize, Trinidad, Cuba, Venezuela (to name a few). In their distinctive raffia-wrapped bottles, Planteray rums are an ode to the creativity and innovation of the global Planteray community – always experimenting and sharing knowledge to push the boundaries of what rum can be.
